Vision and Mission Statement

Spread God's grace through love as disciples of Jesus Christ!

Faith Statement

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the inspired Word of God and final authority for faith and life. We believe there is one God revealed as God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary and conceived by the Holy Spirit and became man without ceasing to be God. We believe Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. We believe no one comes to the Father except through Jesus Christ.

Our Story

EST 1908

Tradition, has it, that in the summer of 1908, a revival was held at Miss Roger's campground, and a brush arbor was built to house the worshipers. The arbor was used for preaching, teaching and fellowship. Even as the cold weather settled in, winter was no match for hearing God's word, and feeling Christian love. In 1910 the Military School House was built and the worship services were moved there. In 1946 the church became apart of the Evangelical Brethren Church and was called Otterbein United Brethren Church. Reverend W. Eugene Kay came in 1951. He was instrumental in the church purchasing Military School so the church could have services here on "our" corner. He left in 1954. In 1968, the Evangelical United Brethren Church joined the United Methodist Church, and the church became Otterbein United Methodist Church.  Reverend Kay returned in 1985 and served the church for the next 20 years. Him and his wife spent 9 years raising funds for the new church building which was completed in 1995. Services began being held in the new building in December of 1994 while it was still being completed. The old Military School building was re-fitted for a Fellowship Hall and Sunday School. In 2023 the church voted to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church and became an Independent Christian Church named Otterbein Country Church, May 6, 2023. Though the church has had many names, one thing remains the same. The people love one another deeply, worship and pray. For a more detailed church history you can read The Story of Otterbein Church as told by: Mary M. Oakley.
